Remember how last week I promised to make at least five posts between podcasts? Mi Ami and Real Estate Live on Record in Charleston

Free Mummies Tracks at WFMU!

God bless the WFMU blog for posting a whole coffin-load of free Mummies-related mp3s which you should download now!! There are several tracks by the Mummies themselves, including the out-of-print "Red Cobra No. 9" which I've played on the podcast before, but the real draw here are the original versions of 14 songs famously covered by the Mummies. There are tracks here by Devo, the Vandals, the Teddy Boys, and a whole bunch more! I especially recommend Supercharger's "Sooprize Package for Mr. Mineo", a personal favorite of mine. "Down Home Girl" is pretty essential, too. Dig that second line!

If you're new to the Mummies, they were the self-proclaimed "Kings of Budget Rock" and one of the best garage rock bands of the last 20 years. They broke up in the early 90's, but if you're gonna be in the NY/NJ area this summer, they are playing a very rare reunion gig at Maxwell's in Hoboken on June 9th. Official site link here.

Cough Syrup and Animal Collective: Together at Last!

Remember four years ago when every other hip-hop album came with a chopped and screwed version? Well that's shit's back, indie-rock-style! Some fella billing himself (or herself) only as OMSRYTK has gone and screwed down Merriweather Post Pavilion. What?!

As far as I can tell, this remix is just screwed and not chopped at all, so some bedroom DJ out there should really get on it and finish the job, but even if it is kinda half-assed, this is a pretty alright listen. Some tracks are kinda weak, but the slowed tempo really works well on "My Girls" and "Taste".

Wow, I was even less active on the blog this week than last week! My bad, but in my defense, I was without internet access for a few days due to a bill-paying mishap. I promise to make at least five posts before the next podcast.

Radio Future - The HEIGHT Podcast

Hey, let's do another Radio Future post! This is a continuing series highlighting podcasts that may be of interest to SCnP-listeners.


This go-'round it's all about Baltimore rapper Height, who since late last summer has been producing a 10- to 20-minute weekly podcast featuring music by different artists he has toured with, plus lots of exclusive remixes of various tracks by Height himself.

The molasses-mouthed Height should be well known to 255 regulars for his three mind-blowing appearances in our living room (with a fourth coming up on May 1st!), but for the uninitiated, Height specializes in keeping things real sloooow, but not in a fucked-up-on-cough-syrup-and-Gatorade kind of way. No, Height's more like an ent, if you'll excuse the Tolkien reference, moving at a pace both plodding and powerful, with an added air of wisdom to his rhymes that brings to mind not only Tolkien's arboreal creatins but also perhaps (brace yourself or you'll get whiplash) Notorious B.I.G.?

I honestly don't know enough hip-hop to really know what I'm talking about here, but I do know I enjoy hearing Height's voice coming out of my earbuds every Tuesday, because I know something good's sure to follow.
